Social distancing in the marketplace

April 30, 2020

Locals at vegetable markets in Province2 follow social distancing, as a preventive measure against the coronavirus. Thanks to youth volunteers for this initiative.

Ramashankar Mahato, a farmer and resident of Simrauangadh-7 appreciated all the youth volunteers who have been facilitating local farmers like him to make them able to sell their vegetables maintaining social distance during this COVID19 pandemic.

“With the lockdown we are compelled to sell their vegetables to middlemen at very low rate due to which consumers need to buy vegetables at excessive prices”, said Mahato.

Youth volunteers mobilized under UNDP's COVID19 Response Initiave (CRI) in coordination with Dhanusha and Simraungadh Municipality have played significant role in managing space for local farmers to sell vegetables at roadsides. The volunteers have been marking circles along with border line to curb the spread of the coronavirus. Moreover, they are also awaring locals on the importance of social distancing in this situation.

"The efforts of the youth volunteers are really appreciable as this have not only helped locals to get fresh vegetables and also have decent income amidst this crisis" said, Bihari Mahato, President of Mithila Municipality, ward no. 2.
