Chitwan, November 25: With developments in Information and Communications Technology (ICT) moving at a rapid pace, ICT staff from the secretariats of all seven provincial assemblies have gathered in Chitwan to update their knowledge and expertise.

A total of 28 ICT staff (4 from each province) are attending the three-day seminar—ICT skill training to Parliament Secretariat Staff for all Provincial Assemblies—being conducted by Perigee Informatics Pvt. Ltd. with UNDP's Parliament Support Project.

The training, which kicked off on November 25, aims to provide the necessary skills and practical knowledge on data management, digital documentation and archiving of data and information. Facilitated by Pawan Ghimire, the training covers different sessions, including Parliamentary Information, Documents and File System; Use of ICT in Parliament; and Knowledge Management in Parliament.

"The content is relevant as the training module incorporates most of the issues we have been facing at work," says Sadam Singh Rathore, Computer Assistant at the Secretariat of Karnali Provincial Assembly.

Like Rathore, the training is proving to quite useful to Chandrakala Basnet, Computer Officer at the Secretariat of Gandaki Provincial Assembly. "We have been given a better understanding of Microsoft Office, which is the program we use the most,” she says. “The sessions on photography and videography have also been really useful.”

UNDP’s Parliament Support Project (PSP) is devoted to supporting the capacity building of parliaments, creating wider discourse around draft laws and promoting parliamentary openness, among others. The project also emphasizes on creation of opportunities for people from marginalized groups, youth and women to participate in parliamentary affairs.
