Guideline for Parliamentary Oversight from the perspective of inclusion of Gender and Marginalized Groups/Community

March 9, 2021

Oversight is one of the core functions of the parliament. The parliament, especially through the MPs and the Parliamentary Committees, oversees the effectiveness of the existing policies and laws, quality of the newly drafted laws, government's policies and implementations of Government’s plans and its assurance. Parliament also makes the government accountable by overseeing the government's regular activities. Moreover, the parliament is the supreme body to oversee the protection and promotion of the rights of the gender and marginalized groups. Hence, this guideline is prepared to facilitate parliamentary oversight especially with the perspective of the inclusion of the gender and marginalized groups or community. This guideline may be more helpful to MPs and the thematic committees of the federal parliament and the provincial assemblies while conducting oversights from the perspective of inclusion of gender and marginalized groups, in particular and any who is interested to know about this area, in general. It is prepared and published by UNDP's Parliament Support Project (PSP).
