Call for Applications: High-level Political Forum on Sustainable Development (HLPF) 2019

June 5, 2019

The UNDP Nepal will support the participation of a representative of Nepali Civil Society at the high-level political forum on sustainable development 2019 organized at United Nations Headquarters in New York from 9-18 July 2019.

The establishment of the United Nations High-level Political Forum on Sustainable Development (HLPF) was mandated in 2012 by the outcome document of the United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development (Rio+20), "The Future We Want". The format and organizational aspects of the Forum are outlined in General Assembly resolution 67/290.

The Forum meets annually under the auspices of the Economic and Social Council for eight days, including a three-day ministerial segment and every four years at the level of Heads of State and Government under the auspices of the General Assembly for two days.

The seventh session of the UN High-level Political Forum on Sustainable Development (HLPF 2019) will take place under the auspices of the UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC). According to decision E/2019/L.1 of 19 October 2018, the session will take place from Tuesday, 9 July, to Monday, 15 July 2019, followed by a three-day ministerial meeting convening from Tuesday, 16 July, to Thursday, 18 July 2019, held jointly with ECOSOC's annual high-level segment.

HLPF 2019 will address the theme, 'Empowering people and ensuring inclusiveness and equality'. It will conduct an in-depth review of SDG 4 (quality education), SDG 8 (decent work and economic growth), SDG 10 (reduced inequalities), SDG 13 (climate action) and SDG 16 (peace, justice and strong institutions), in addition to SDG 17 (partnerships for the Goals) which is reviewed each year.

This year UNDP Nepal will facilitate the participation of the Nepali Civil Society representative and will support for a maximum of 5 days to participate in the meeting of the high-level political forum on sustainable development in 2019. Thus, UNDP Nepal invites applications from interested candidates representing marginalized groups and who have excellent track records on advocacy work in the areas that will be covered under the theme of this year’s HLPF, as outlined above.

To apply for support to attend the seventh session of the UN High-level Political Forum on Sustainable Development (HLPF 2019)  applicants are expected to submit an updated resume (not exceeding 3 pages) and a short essay (maximum 500 words), in English, telling us how you plan to use the opportunity: how participation is linked to your ongoing work in empowering people and ensuring inclusiveness and equality; how you will utilize your experience in strengthening your future work. Along with the application also send the confirmation of the registration to attend the HLPF. The selection of candidates will be based on the potential to contribute towards equality, inclusion and the empowerment of people in Nepal.
