We are now calling for nominations for the 2019 N-Peace Awards. Through its yearly awards, the N-Peace network aims to recognize influential people with extraordinary commitments who share powerful stories as activists and peace-builders. Around 11 awards is set to be presented to grass root activists, prominent campaigners and potential peace advocates. Former recipients the awards display an active involvement in decision-making and policy interventions in local and national level.

Awards presented in various categories envision to- “recognize individuals who work on women, peace and security by profiling, documenting and highlighting their work and achievements”. They are intended intended to further the cause of peace, gender equality, equal participation, and empowerment of women. Eligible counties for the participation include Indonesia, Nepal, Pakistan, Myanmar, The Philippines, Afghanistan, and Sri Lanka.

Since its inception in 2011, several Nepalis have bagged the N-Peace Award. In 2016, for her tremendous work in advancing the rights of ex-bonded laborers, particularly women and girls, Basanti Chaudhary—a young leader from the Tharu community hailing from a family of former bonded laborers herself—had won the award from Nepal in the “Untold Stories” category. This category focuses on sharing the stories of women who work at the grassroots level in conflict resolution, prevention and peace building in their communities. Similarly in 2018, journalist Lokshari Kunwar and activist Hira Singh Thapa were awarded in the “Untold Stories” and “Campaigning for Action” categories respectively.

Nominees who meet the criteria will have their profile shared online for the public to cast their votes. Top three candidates receiving most votes in each category will be screened by panel of experts and recognized with the N-peace award 2019.
