The UN Country Team will support the participation of representatives of Nepali Civil Society in the 71st Session of the Committee on Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women, organized at Geneva, Palais des Nations, Room XVI, A Building, 22 October to 9 November 2018

The Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW) is the body of independent experts that monitors implementation of the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women. The CEDAW Committee consists of 23 experts on women’s rights from around the world.

Countries who have become party to the treaty are obliged to submit regular reports to the Committee on how the rights of the Convention are implemented. During its sessions the Committee considers each State party report and addresses its concerns and recommendations to the State party in the form of concluding observations. The Committee will consider Nepal’s report in the 71st Session of the Committee.

The UN Country Team (UNCT) in Nepal will coordinate and facilitate the participation of Nepali Civil Society representatives to participate in the 71st Session of the Committee. Thus, UNCT Nepal invites applications from interested candidates representing Civil Society Organization in Nepal for their participation in the 71st Session of the Committee. The UNCT will cover the cost of 4 days including ticket.

To apply for support to attend the 71st Session of the Committee on Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women in Geneva, applicants are expected to submit an updated resume (not exceeding 3 pages) and a short essay (maximum 500 words), in English, telling us how you plan to use the opportunity: their active participation during the session; how participation is linked to the ongoing work in promoting gender equality and empowerment of women; how you will utilize your experience in strengthening your future work. The selection of candidates will be based on the potential to contribute towards the empowerment of women, gender equality and inclusion in Nepal. The supported participants will be expected to report back to the UNCT’s Gender Theme Group.
