Art of Living commemorates International Day for the Eradication of Poverty
On the occasion of the International Day for the Eradication of Poverty, a musical event was organized by The Art of Living Foundation, a social and spiritual organization, in an open air theatre in downtown Kathmandu where altogether 4000 people stood-up in the campaign to end poverty while the pledge was being read out by Pandit Din Bandhu Pokharel, a spiritual leader.
The musical event was sponsored by UNDP, private sector and civil society organisations.The Stand-Up event was addressed by the Minister for Environment, Science and Technology Mr. Ganesh Shah and the UN Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator Mr. Robert Piper. Also speaking on the occasion was the global Millennium Development Goals Director Mr. Salil Shetty.
The rock show was the major attraction of the event where some of the leading national rock stars presented their most popular songs drawing a large crowd. T-shirts having Standup Against Poverty thematic slogan were distributed by the United Nations Information Centre to the participants.
