Re-establishment of Election Observation Resource CentreFeb 28, 2008
With the new date for the Constituent Assembly(CA) election that has now been rescheduled for 10 April 2008, the Election Commission (EC) of the Government of Nepal has requested UNDP to re-open the ‘Electoral Observation Resource Centre’ as a matter of urgency.
To this effect, UNDP, after completing the preliminary inspection of the premises has set up the Centre which is now functioning.
Currently, the preparation for accreditation cards for around 600 observers are ongoing along with preparations for briefing and training of domestic and international observers which will be conducted from the second week of March.
The compilation and updating of observer packages is being done which consists of voter list, election procedures, lists of polling centres, directives for observers, the Election Code of Conduct and manuals for CA election.
The Centre will also regularly organise informative briefings in cooperation with other international organisations already engaged in electoral observation assistance activities in Nepal covering the electoral process.
The Election Observation Resource Centre project is funded by the UN Peace Trust Fund for a total amount of US$ 195,000.
