UNDP’s support to current natural disaster
Incessant rainfall since 10 July 2007 has triggered floods and landslides in Nepal. In July, UNDP provided financial support to make the UNMIN helicopters available for rescuing and transporting relief materials.
UNDP will continue to respond to the requests from the Government to coordinate and strengthen the efficient and timely delivery mechanisms to ensure goods and service reach the affected population via any possible modes of transportation.
To-date UNDP has received commitments of support from different associations, corporate bodies, and media houses among many others.
UNDP will continue to facilitate the private sector participation in its efforts of addressing this crisis situation. The total worth of this contribution has already exceeded approximately US$ 260,000/-.
Upon request received from the Ministries of Health and Population and Home Affairs, Government of Nepal (GoN) and WHO, UNDP is providing further support for the transportation of medical teams and kits to some of the most remote districts which had potential threat of a gastro-enteritis epidemic in the current monsoon period.
As per its mandate, UNDP also proposes to undertake a technical assessment on early recovery needs immediately after the current monsoon season.
