Making the Case for Ecosystem-based Adaptation: The Global Mountain EBA Programme in Nepal, Peru And Uganda

July 26, 2016

Making the Case for Ecosystem-based Adaptation: The global mountain EBA Programme in Nepal, Peru and Uganda is a knowledge product that documents the lessons learned from EBA project. The EbA project is a flagship programme of United Nation Environment Programme(UNEP), United Nations Development Programme(UNDP) and International Union for Conservation of Nature(IUCN) funded by the Government of Germany through International Climate Initiative (IKI) in partnership with the Governments of Nepal, Peru and Uganda. The project aims to help these three countries -- that are particularly vulnerable to climate change -- become climate resilient.

The book highlights several environmental, social and economic benefits of EbA measures. It also focused new EbA interventions, such as stabilizing mountain slopes that are vulnerable to erosion from more intense rains, with indigenous plants which can be harvested and sold. The publication tracks the experience of the programme in undertaking cost benefit analysis of specific EbA interventions, and comparing these with a business-as-usual scenario.
